Photon Chaos Decklist

After I sold my Tour Guides at YCS Kansas City, I decided that it was time to go back to what is the most fun for me in Yugioh.  Creating my own unique builds and playing them against the established meta.  With that in mind, I picked up a set of Photon Sabre Tigers and built a deck around them.
Monsters 19

2 Maxx "C"
2 Effect Veiler
3 Photon Sabre Tiger
2 TG Warwolf
2 TG Striker
2 Thunder King Rai-Oh
1 Sangan
1 Gorz
1 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Begining
1 Chaos Sorcerer
2 Spirit Reaper

Spells 11

2 Pot of Duality
1 Pot of Avarice
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn
1 Mind Control
2 Smashing Ground

Traps 11

1 Trap Dustshoot
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Torrential Tribute
2 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
2 Bottomless Traphole
1 Starlight Road
1 Gravity Bind

Extra Deck 15

1 Wind Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon
1 Arcanite Magician
1 Black Rose Dragon
1 Orient Dragon
1 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Ally of Justice Catastor
1 TG Wonder Magician
1 TG Hyper Librarian
1 Armory Arm
1 Chimeratech Fortress Dragon

At first glance, you can immediately see that there is a stun/antimeta flavor to the deck.  I am packing lots of one for one removal.  Many of my monsters either produce advantage or have staying power once they hit the board. I believe that in order to compete with all the top tier decks, you must have ways to keep up with faster paced decks.

I like this card because it is an inherent plus one, when there are two or more on the field it has a formidable 2000 attack, and it has the light attribute.  You run this card like you run any gadget or machina gearframe.  Summon this before Thunder King hits the field or after Thunder King is removed from the field.  Simple as that.  Another thing I like about this card is that if I already control a

I can make Rank 3 XYZs easily.

The TG engine serves as a deck thinning tool as well quick access to synchros.  Striker + Warwolf into TG Wonder Magician to clear a backrow card then summoning Photon Sabre Tiger or Spirit Reaper is a huge play.  The engine also allows me to play both Black Luster Soldier and Chaos Sorcerer because of the quick access to Lights (TG Wonder Magician) and Darks (TG Warwolf).  I believe that what makes my deck is that I'm able to run Boss Monsters in addition to keeping an anti meta feel to the deck.  The fact that Sorcerer and Soldier are Inherent Special Summons also mean that I'm not susceptible to my opponents' Maxx "C."  One of the flaws of Agents, Karakuri, and TGU Plants is that a well timed Maxx C will ruin their big plays and often times cost them the game.

I have a few odd tech picks in the deck.  Double Spirit in my honest opinion will be staple in any deck that has room for them.  If you want a deck that completely stalls out Agents or Rescue Rabbit, then this card alone will do the job.  There are many outs to Reaper, but your opponent must first draw them and often times, they are very hesistant to use their game breaking cards like Mind Control, Dark Hole, or Forbidden Lance ESPECIALLY if they have no immediate follow up play.  Since I run so much removal.  I am able to get several direct attacks with my Reapers and when my opponent attempts to overcome the Reapers, I can exceed them into another threat like Zenmaines or Leviathan or even Leviair to retrieve a banished threat.  Gravity Bind is another fun card in this deck.  Most of my monsters are level 3 and lower so they are unaffected.  Another cool thing is that I can easily XYZ summon into a powerful monster and neglect the Gravity Bind.  Also, it can allow me to stall until I can put together resources to mount a huge play or make a counter attack.  Finally, Effect Veiler has two spots dedicated to it.  I know that the current trend is to run 0 - 1 Veilers but I refuse to get pooped on by simple plays like TGU->Sangan/Broww or Trishula without mass special summoning (Plants do it often using Tengu + Rai-Oh + normal summon Bulb or Spore.  Also, it is an easy Light monster that I can throw to the grave making my BLS and Sorcerer live.

I hope you like the deck.  Feel free to build the deck IRL or on DN and let me know if you made any modifications and how it worked for you.  If you liked this article, let me know that as well and I'll do more written deck profiles in addition to video deck profiles.

  3. i like the idea of photon saber tiger. I could really see this card showing up in a lot of decks, mostly because its a lv tengu-gadget like substance that is xyz friendly. i might reccomend some tengus and horn of the phantom beast, but thats just me.

  4. While there is only one photon card, anon, you have to realise that, as he's running three of them, he's almost definitely going to be using it, and it searches itself. It is essentially one of the big points of the deck; you summon Tiger, search another, and now you have the Tiger for whatever you want to do - bait the opponent's removal card, punch for damage, Xyz for options. Notice the abundance of level 3 monsters (3 Tiger, 2 Warwolf, Sangan, 2 Reaper), and how Tiger fits in there. The deck itself, while it has plenty more plays, has that one big play which is "Summon Tiger; search Tiger" which can be surprisingly powerful when your opponent is on the back foot.

  5. uh, dubk, you've said "11 spells" but there's only 10 listed there - have you miscounted or should you be running one more?

  9. dub, love the deck idea! I'm glad you're going to back to what you like, because what's the point of playing if it's not fun? Why not main some Mirror of Oaths? That card pretty much poops on every deck right now: plants, angents, rabbit, and pretty much anything with TGU. Just a thought.
