Yugioh - Themed Duels to be renamed Yusei Format! (updated rules v1.2)

Yusei Format Deck Construction Rules:

Side-Decking & Preparing for SJC Edison 2010 by IAMSIXXY

In the seventh installment of his "Pro Tip For BKs", dubkdad1 gave you a brief overview of some of the best cards to consider when making your side deck. The cards he mentioned were, "Jinzo", "Breaker the Magical Warrior", "D.D. Crow", "Legendary Jujitsu Master", "Nobleman of Crossout", "Soul Release", "My Body As A Shield", "Soul Release", "My Body As A Shield", "Trap Stun", "Mirror Of Oaths", "Trap Hole", "Starlight Road", "Dust Tornado", and "Royal Oppression". Yugioh - Themed Duels

Getting tired of seeing the same thing over and over again?  Well starting this weeked, I am going to begin presenting duels featuring decks you may not have even considered running because of all of the bustedness running about.  Consider this:  If you remove all of the busted, over powered limited and semi-limited cards from the card pool and are forced to play in the same fashion they play on the Anime, this game would be so fun too play.  I'd be really interested to see how you all feel about dueling using this idea.

Themed Duel Deck Construction Rules:

1) Decks must have a theme or be based on an archetype.

  a) competitive themes are not allowed: LS, BW, GB, or Monarchs.

  b) examples of themes are Aliens, Plants, or Dinosaurs.

  c) Decks designed to summon Nomis are allowed but the "Nomi" monster must be ran in threes.

2) Decks are to be constructed using the current Advanced Format with the following additions:

  a) Limited and semi-limited cards are not allowed.

  b) Cards that have a comparative effect for your chosen theme must be used over the "generic
card. Example: Sakuretsu Armor/Dimensional Prison = Geminis have Justi-Break and Frogs
      have Froggy Forcefield.

More details to come as the duels develop.

A Challenger Appears!!!

So now everyone wants to run Synchro Cat! OMFG! Just when I spent all of last format perfecting the deck... There are many ways run Zhe Cat:

Standard Cat
- See summer of 2009 decklists...

Chaos Cat
- Sorc, 2 Cyber/Oracle, rykos, etc

Flamvell Cat
- Flamvell Firedog/Magician, rekindling, cat engine

and my favorite

Hamster Cat
- Super-Mega-Awesome Nimble Hamster, rykos, whirlwind weasel (yes, I said it!)

I've noticed that many people have decided to drop Dark Armed Dragon and Sorc in these builds because dark counts are low and they want to keep rekindling and PoA live at all times. Also, with the loss of 1 Allure of Darkness, the need to run darks just isn't there. People are also arguing theor-i-oh about which support/floater engine is best.

Both camps run the Flamvell Engine. Some like GK Spy/Descendent, while others like Hamster. The spy users argue that Hamster is too passive, relying on an attack to get a useful ryko/airbellum. Where as spy doesn't get killed by opposing firedogs and can make for more reliable Arcanite plays. Hamster users argue that even without an attack, a flipped hamster followed by the summon of Flamvell Magician makes for a level 8 synchro backed up by a ryko. You can make up your mind about which is best.

I have decided to mix the two camps. I figure, why be tied down to one engine when you can get the best of both worlds.

Yugioh - Expected Meta for 3/1/2010

The evolution of Blackwings! With the loss of 1 Blackwing Whirlwind and Allure of Darness, many people are saying that the archetype is unplayable. I would argue that the deck is not dead, just in a temporary COMA until the The Shining Darkness! I think that with the aid of Treasure and the new monsters, the deck will regain its poplularity, power, and speed. For now, when playing the deck (if you are brave enough to continue using it) you'll have to play the conservative game. Use your Whirlwind searches wisely, save that icarus attack for when you need it, just incase you don't draw another monster, etc. A few things the deck has going for it are:

- It is still has the best matchup vs Gladiator Beasts.
- It can play around royal oppression better than most decks.
- Icarus attack is still the best "themed" removal card in the game.
- Lightsworn only has 2 honest!
- Can side into Skill Drain and Dimensional Fissure

All of this may be a no brainer, but my point is DON'T GET RID OF YOUR BLACKWING STUFF JUST YET!!! Make sure that you at least keep the annoying cards to find like Blizzard, Vayu, and any foil upgrades like Whirlwind and Icarus Attack. Trust me, you'll thank me in a few months!

Deck Lists on my Website!

By popular demand. I will begin keeping a compendium of decklist that I have created. They will be located on my website which can be found HERE under the subtitle of Deck Compendium. Mainly found here will be my fun decks and crazy ideas that have been presented on YouTube. At a later date, I will add a section containing decks that I have worked on for other people or decks that I toyed around with at one time. I hope you enjoy.

Yugioh - Expected Meta for 3/1/2010 part 2

Like it or not, Light Lords are definitely NOT DEAD!  Like most top decks in past formats, this deck has evolved immensely.  The deck has lost many key cards:

2 Necro Gardna
2 Charge of the Light Brigade
2 Lumina
1 Honest

The average player would think that would enough to kill the deck type, but to seasoned players like our team and dedicated LS players the banlist has opened up slots to be filled with cards that previously were filled with staples.  Think about it, the loss of 7 cards that were part of the back bone of the deck can now be replaced with "tech" that can fully support the deck and allow it to do things that it couldn't reliably do in the past...MAIN TRAP CARDS!  Since the deck is not turbo milling now, be on the lookout for cards in the main you are not used to seeing in competitive builds of LS:

Mirror Force
Trap Dustshoot
Solemn Judgement
Bottomless Traphole
Call of the Haunted
Royal Oppression
Torrential Tribute

In the past those spots were taken up by monsters and beckoning light...Now those once harmless bluffs in the backrow are now serious threats.  I'd also like to add that LS should now be refered to as Twilight because in my opinion Gale, Chaos Sorc, DAD, Gorz, Trago, even Phantom of Chaos are staples in this deck.

Next time we'll go into the evolution of Blackwings.  This should be fun!
