Yugioh - Get the Machina by PNcollector

With the first month of the format coming to a close several different decks have emerged in popularity earning a place to form the new metagame. There are: Blackwing with there future support in Shining Darkness, the adapting Gladiator Beast, and the not to forgotten Lightsworn Deck. Several other notable decks such as Infernity, X-Sabers, and Flamevell/Hamster variants have begun to do well in the format, but fall short due to the lack of unreleased sets and over priced cards that would allow players to truly exploit there potential. Compared to all those decks, there is one that has caught my attention recently. The Machina Deck.
The release of the Machina Mayhem Structure Deck in March brought to light how much of a threat they are within the new Meta. Gaining both aspects of Union and tutoring effects illustrates how formidable the combination truly can become. The key and noteworthy cards in the deck aside from Dimensional Prison, Cyber Valley, Cyber Dragon, and Infernal Reckless Summon to name a few,: the most amazing card is one that has brought Machines to the tournament scene. The one and only Machina Fortress.

This card has the word elegant simple written all over it. First, lets dissect this card in detail. Beginning with You can discard Machine-Type monster(s) whose total Levels equal 8 or more to Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard. Now isnt amazing, a card with 2500 atk that can revive itself is nothing to scoff at. Plus according to Konami rules the Machina Fortress can discard itself for its effect as parts of the cost to special summon itself if it existed in the players hand. One may seem that discarding monster can become a steep cost, but if the Fortress is backed up with a plethora of Gadget monsters a synergy of cards can emerge that allows deck thinning and guaranteed monster presence. Next are the reaming two effects: When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, select and destroy 1 card your opponent controls. When this face-up card you control is targeted by an opponent's Effect Monster's effect, look at your opponent's hand and discard 1 card from their hand. The targeted by monster effects ability instantly allow a player to gain public knowledge of what his opponent has if they wish to target the Fortress. In addition, With Blackwing having access to Kalut and decks that utilize Honest it allows the Fortress to retaliate against monsters that destroy it in battle by destroy any card on the field. Not to forget to that the Fortress can revive itself after the battle and be ready to fight once again. And with cards like Machina Gearframe it allows the Fortress to even be searched out. Though what make this deck shine are the tech choices that I have seen players use.

Scrap recycler allows the discarding of any machine type monster from your deck. This includes Machina Fortress in which you can revive it from the Graveyard. Its other effect to return two earth machine 4 star monsters back to the deck to draw one card allows for the reuse of the Gadgets and Gearframes all over again. A personal favorite of mine in this deck, Solidarity, helps to illuminate the force that gadgets have with 800 plus attack points. With it your opponent can become overwhelmed by the sheer power of your gadgets. Cards such as Gearframe and Fortress can become 2600 atk and 3300atk giving them unmatched strength. . Many see Solidarity as an unneeded card, but it is a highly over looked card for the deck that actually makes the opponent fear Gadgets. If also, protected by cards such as starlight road and Solemn Judgment the Solidarity will be here to stay. Not to forget that multiple Solidarity effects stack making it viable for the deck.

The cost of the deck is relatively cheap and consists mainly of 3 of the structure decks, but hold plenty of room to expand on. Cards that are good 1 for 1 such as Smashing Ground and Fissure allow for more direct attacks and get rid of larger monsters that may be a threat. Even Pot of Avarice has begun to be an optional choice for the deck do to all the deck thinning. Cards like Starlight Road and My Body as a Shield allow you to over extend freely without fear. Like how one of my friends puts it, Its not overextending its called wining.  In the end, many may see Gadgets in the deck as cards that would clog the hands, but the Machina Fortress gives purpose to those cards and allows the synergy for an old archetype. Pushing Machines into the tournament scene demonstrating the power of Union, Tutoring, and sheer force alone make the Machina deck very difficult to deal with in tournaments. Players will soon realize that if not prepared for this new deck that they will be running to Get the Machina. This is Pete Navarro on the Machina deck and look forward to articles from me in the future
